Color Doppler imaging assessment of blood flow in vascularized pedicle grafts for avascular necrosis of the femoral head: angiographic correlation.

چکیده
The aim of this study was to examine whether color Doppler imaging can be used to assess vascular patency after use of pedicle pelvic bone grafts in the operative treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral head. We performed color Doppler imaging and selective angiography in 10 consecutive patients (12 hip joints) treated for avascular necrosis of the femoral head. In comparison to angiographic results, nine patent and two occluded grafts were demonstrated correctly by color Doppler imaging. In one case, a graft confirmed as patent by angiography was not demonstrable by color Doppler imaging. Accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of color Doppler imaging were high when compared to angiography as a standard. Color Doppler imaging is suited to evaluate vascular patency after use of vascularized pedicle bone grafts in the treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral head.

Can three-phase skeletal scintigraphy predict the outcome and determine the timing of removal of bone distracters in avascular necrosis of femur using a novel corticostomy technique?
Introduction: 99mTc-Methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) three phase bone scintigraphy (TPS) is beneficial to evaluate the success of femoral head revascularization using novel distraction osteogenesis techniques with bone muscle pedicle grafts. This pilot study was undertaken to evaluate the feasibility and utility of 99mTc-MDP three phase bone ...
متن کاملAvascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head: Are Any Genes Involved?
Avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH) is a pathologic process that results from interruption of blood supply to the femur bone resulting in the death of bone cells and collapse of the femoral head. Nontraumatic ANFH continuesto be a significant challenge to orthopedic surgeons. While the exact mechanisms remain elusive, many new insights have emerged from research in the last decade tha...

This article presents the history and development of as well as the results from the various techniques of vascularized bone grafting for the treatment of osteonecrosis (ON) of the femoral head. The authors have treated more than 2600 patients who had femoral head ON, using a vascularized fibular graft by way of an intraosseous approach. The results from this vast experience are summarized and ...
متن کاملFemoral Head Avascular Necrosis in Heterozygous Sickle Haemoglobin, the Role of Parenteral Drug Abuse: A Case Report
Sickle cell trait is a benign haemoglobin disorder which rarely results in disease or complications. A few cases of osteonecrosis have been reported in the literature in parts of the world with advanced health care system. There are various predispositions to developing avascular necrosis in general, while the sickle beta globin gene inheritance is the most efficient factor. Injection drug abus...
متن کاملProgression of avascular necrosis of femoral head and choice of treatment.
Observations of the disease course mainly by X-ray were made in 52 patients (85 joints) with avascular necrosis of the femoral head to determine the prognosis and to decide on treatment. The progression of the necrotic area is related to the activity of the original disease, to the size of the necrotic area in the early stages of the disease, and to whether or not the patient received steroid t...
